A study in Palau suggests that a single reef shark has a value to the tourism industry up to US$ 1.9 million over its lifetime.
In contrast, if the same shark was killed for consumtion, it’ll worth only US$ 108.
Therefore, many countries and states such as Palau, maldives, Hawii, Marshell Islands, Hoduras, etc. have banned shark fin trade. Many of them have established a shark sanctuary.
